How Many Instagram Accounts Per Mobile Proxy?

Ask this anywhere and you get four different numbers, all delivered with the same confidence. The disagreement isn't noise, it's the answer.

A spread of 2 to 10 isn't a range, it's a shrug. Every one of those figures is extrapolated from somebody's own accounts, and none of them can be checked, because the only party who knows the threshold doesn't publish it and keeps changing it. Why "accounts per IP" is the wrong unit

The question assumes the IP is what links accounts together. It's one of several links, and usually not the strongest. What really feeds the decision:

  • Account age and history. A five-year-old account with real engagement takes far more than a week-old one
  • Whether the accounts share a browser fingerprint, which links them whatever the IP says
  • How fast they behave, meaning posting, following and messaging rates, per account and added up
  • Whether the accounts interact with each other, which is a far stronger signal than a shared address
  • Whether the IP is genuinely yours, or shared with other people running automation on it
  • Sudden changes. Ten accounts appearing on a brand new IP at once looks nothing like organic growth

Two accounts on one IP with separate, well-aged histories and distinct browser profiles are in a much better position than eight fresh accounts on eight separate IPs sharing one fingerprint. The per-IP count is the variable people optimise because it's the one they can buy.

A method instead of a number

  • Start at one and let it settle into normal activity before you add anything.
  • Add one at a time, with a gap between additions. Ten accounts appearing on a new address in one afternoon is the anomaly, not the total.
  • Give each account its own browser profile so the fingerprint doesn't undo the work the IP is doing. See our antidetect browser setup guide.
  • Watch the leading indicators such as verification prompts, action blocks and reach dropping. Back off one account when they show up. That's your limit, measured rather than guessed.
  • Don't rotate the IP under them. Accounts want a stable home connection. Rotation is for starting fresh, not for maintenance, more on that here.

So what is the actual number?

Nobody outside Instagram knows, and that's the honest answer. Published guidance runs from 2 to 10 depending on who's writing, and they disagree because they're all extrapolating from their own accounts. Instagram doesn't publish per-IP thresholds, and they aren't fixed anyway, they respond to overall behaviour rather than counting heads. Treat any specific figure, including one on a proxy vendor's site, as a guess dressed up as data.

If nobody knows, how should I decide?

Work up to it instead of starting at a number you read somewhere. Begin with one account per IP, let normal activity settle, then add the next one and watch for the early signals: verification prompts, action blocks, reach falling off. Those show up before a ban and they're your real limit. It'll be specific to your accounts and how you behave, which is the only reason it's worth measuring at all.

Does one account per proxy guarantee safety?

No. It takes the IP out as a linking factor, which is worth doing, but accounts get restricted on their own behaviour all the time with a perfectly clean dedicated IP. If your accounts are getting actioned at one per IP, the address wasn't the problem and buying more proxies won't help.

Does a dedicated proxy beat a rotating pool for this?

For managing accounts, yes, and it isn't close. Accounts expect a stable home connection. A rotating pool hands you an address someone else was using for something else an hour ago, and it can move your account onto a new network mid-session, which is a bigger anomaly than the one you were trying to avoid. Stability is the feature here.

Is this against Instagram's terms?

Running multiple accounts is allowed and extremely common, agencies, brands and creators all do it. Automating actions on them generally isn't, however you route the traffic. A proxy changes the network path, not the rules. If what you're doing depends on breaking the platform's terms, no infrastructure decision makes that last.
